Gunnison Watershed School District (GWSD) was recently notified of a student data breach that occurred with a vendor we previously used, Illuminate Education. The product, Alpine Achievement, was determined to have exposed student demographics information as part of a migration of data. We were just informed of this breach on October 16, 2023, although it occurred in May of 2023. Data for current and former Gunnison Watershed School District students was reportedly compromised. Families of students impacted should be receiving an official notification from Illuminate Education through USPS mail explaining this breach in more detail. This was a nationwide breach and nearly every school district using this product, including many in Colorado, were involved.
Illuminate Education has informed us that certain files including student information for at least some students were compromised. The types of student information involved varied by individual. We can confirm that the data did not contain Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or bank account numbers.

Although this breach was not the fault of our school district, we are sorry for any worry or inconvenience it may cause. We will communicate again if we receive any additional information beyond what you will be getting from Illuminate Education.

El Distrito Escolar de Gunnison Watershed (GWSD) fue notificado recientemente sobre una filtración de información de los estudiantes que ocurrió con un proveedor que utilizabamos anteriormente, Illuminate Education. Se determinó que el producto, Alpine Achievement, había expuesto información demográfica de los estudiantes como parte de una migración de datos. Se nos informó de esta filtración el día 16 de octubre del 2023, aunque esto ocurrió en mayo del 2023.
