School Board Members

Board Member Information

LeeAnn Mick, President

I was raised, along with my brother Bill Gern, in Gunnison from the time I was a baby. My Dad was a Professor at WSC and my Mom became a Middle school Language Arts teacher.

I attended Gunnison schools from K to graduation from GHS I am grateful for the many those early experiences provided me through my education and community. I then earned a BA degree in Elementary Education and Art from Western in 1968. I became an art teacher at Ruland Middle School in 1970- 1973. I left the classroom for a time and returned to work for the Gunnison School District as a Special Ed Aide in 1979 and in 1984 I returned to the Middle School art classroom. I went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Western in Education with an emphasis in art in 1987. I remained at the Middle School for the remainder of my teaching career until my retirement in 2006.

I served my fellow teachers as GCEA President and in other offices as well as CEA on state level committees.

Following my retirement, I worked at Tenderfoot Daycare Center and completely retired in December 2015. It has been my pleasure to serve my community as a member of the Board of Education since November of 2015.

Dale Orth moved to the Gunnison community in 2001 to teach chemistry at Western.  He earned his BA in chemistry from Colorado College and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  At Western, he has served as faculty trustee and chair of the Faculty Senate, as well as chairing the department of Natural and Environmental Sciences. While on sabbatical for the 2010-11 academic year, Dale served as a Congressional Fellow in the office of U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller.  He worked on a variety of issues for the Senator, many of them related to K-12 and higher education as well as science funding.

Dale has served on the school board since December 2014 and is currently serving as treasurer.  Dale's daughter Sarah graduated from Gunnison High School, and his wife Jen teaches preschool at Tenderfoot.  Dale enjoys many of the recreational activities in the Gunnison area, and he is very thankful to serve and represent our community as a school board member.
