Student Meal accounts

Each student enrolled in the District is assigned a school meals account, which they can use to charge meals.  In order to alleviate the financial burden that unpaid meal charges place on the school district, parents are expected to maintain a positive or zero balance on their child’s account.

How to pay for meals and pre-fund student accounts

Meals can be paid for in the following ways:

  • Create a free account online at www.mypaymentsplus.com using your child’s PowerSchool ID number. Please contact your school’s office if you do not know this number.  This website lets you pre-fund your child’s lunch account, make payments, keep track of purchases, create low balance notifications for yourself, and even set-up automatic payments.  This is the recommended method to manage your student’s account.
  • Pre-pay with cash or check at your school’s office. Make checks out to “Gunnison Watershed School District” and write “school meals” and your student’s school ID number on the memo.
  • Students can pay with cash at the register.
  • Bring/ mail payment to Kristen Osborn, Gunnison Watershed School District, 800 N. Blvd., Gunnison CO 81230.Free and reduced meals are available for those who qualify. Please see below.

How to Manage & Monitor Student Accounts and Spending -It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to create an account on www.mypaymentsplus.com in order to monitor their child’s spending, add funds to the account, and make payments. The school district does not send home statements of balances or itemized purchases.  -Please discuss with your student whether you allow them to charge meals and/or a la carte food and beverages. If you do not want your child to charge purchases in the cafeteria, please tell your child. Then contact your student's Kitchen Manager (see contacts below) to put a block on his/her account.  -It is imperative that you tell your child not to purchase items beyond your authorization or beyond what their eligibility allows (free and reduced-price meal eligibility covers one breakfast and lunch daily; extra items are charged).  -If an account is blocked, the only way a child may make purchases is with cash.  -Per Board policy EF-E-1, students are allowed to charge complete meals even if they have a negative balance. Parents will be held accountable for payments. ONLY when the parent requests a block on meal charging will the student be denied a full meal.

Payment reminders and collection of unpaid meal balances

  • Parents of students with negative balances are notified biweekly by email.
  • Notifications are emailed from Solana, the foodservice software. It is your responsibility to read these messages.
  • Letters are sent home if there is no email address on file.
  • Parents may be notified of the negative balance by the cafeteria manager.
  • Students may not charge a la carte items if their account has a negative or zero balance.
  • The District cannot carry the financial burden of delinquent lunch accounts or spend the time and energy it takes to collect.  Therefore, as a last resortany staff who repeatedly refuses to take one of the above actions and continues to have a negative balance on their lunch account or their child’s lunch account will be notified and sent to collections.
